Overview

The Max India Foundation (MIF) and the Max Institute of Healthcare Management (MIHM) at the Indian School of Business (ISB) have launched the SCALE initiative – Senior Care Advancement Through Learning and Evidence – with Antara Senior Care serving as the founding industry partner. The programme is underpinned by a multi‑year CSR grant from MIF and aims to build an evidence base for India’s rapidly expanding senior‑care market.

Participants and MoU

The Memorandum of Understanding was exchanged between Tara Singh Vachani, Managing Trustee of Max India Foundation, and the Executive Chairperson of Antara Senior Care, in the presence of ISB Dean Madan Pillutla, Rajit Mehta (MD & CEO, Antara Senior Care), Ishaan Khanna (CEO, Antara Assisted Care Services), Sarang Deo (Executive Director, MIHM at ISB), Karthik Balakrishnan (Deputy Dean – Faculty and Research, ISB) and DNV Kumara Guru (Senior Director – Advancement, Alumni Engagement and External Relations, ISB).

Initiative Objectives

SCALE will bring together researchers, senior‑care industry stakeholders and clinicians to examine evolving care needs and identify priority action areas. Its focus areas include consumer behaviour, workforce participation, social inclusion, operating and care‑delivery models, financing mechanisms, and technology adoption. The platform will facilitate research collaborations, data partnerships, pilots, evaluations and knowledge exchange, ultimately generating industry‑level evidence to inform business decisions, investment strategies, workforce planning and policy formulation.

Antara Senior Care Profile

Antara Senior Care, launched in 2013, is the senior‑care business of Max India Limited, a subsidiary of the USD 6.3‑billion Max Group. It operates an integrated ecosystem across two main lines of business – Residences for Seniors and Assisted Care Services. The first residential community in Dehradun houses nearly 200 families; a second community in Noida’s Sector‑150 comprises 340 apartments in Phase 1. Expansion in Gurugram includes senior‑living residences and primary‑healthcare services at Estate 360 and Estate 361, developed by Max Estates.

Assisted Care Services encompass Care Homes and Services, AGEasy, and the Antara Integrated Wellness Clinic. The Care Homes network includes eight facilities with a total of 485 beds across Gurugram, Noida, Bengaluru and Chennai, providing long‑term and short‑term medical and nursing care. Care‑at‑home services operate in Delhi NCR, Bengaluru and Chennai, delivering trained professional support within seniors’ homes. AGEasy, the direct‑to‑consumer arm focused on senior‑specific products and solutions for active ageing, has reached over 9 lakh lives since its inception in 2023. The Integrated Wellness Clinic combines modern medicine with evidence‑based traditional therapies through a multidisciplinary team.

Expected Impact

By linking real‑world industry challenges with academic research, SCALE aims to influence service design, operating models, technology uptake, workforce strategies, investment decisions and innovation across the senior‑care sector. The initiative seeks to strengthen the evidence base that can guide both private‑sector practice and public‑policy responses to India’s growing senior population.
