Meta Platforms will not face a second trial in California state court in Los Angeles after the teenage plaintiff from Florida, identified in court documents as R.K.C., withdrew his claims on July 23, 2026. The trial had been scheduled to begin on July 27, 2026, and the withdrawal was described by the plaintiff’s legal team as being "in light of the overall successful result of the litigation and his concerns about enduring a grueling week‑long trial."
Google’s YouTube and TikTok, also named as defendants in the case, had previously reached settlement agreements with R.K.C. and his family, and Snap Inc. announced on Monday that it had reached a tentative settlement to resolve the claims. Meta and three other major social‑media companies now face more than 3,000 individual lawsuits alleging that their products cause various harms to users.
The case would have been the second trial among thousands of complaints filed by young users and their families. The first trial, which began in February 2026, resulted in a Los Angeles jury finding Meta and Google liable for a 20‑year‑old woman’s mental‑health problems and awarding her $6 million in damages.
Following the news of the withdrawal, Meta’s shares fell 2.60%, Alphabet’s (Google) shares fell 1.48%, and Snap Inc.’s shares fell 2.08%.
