Meta Platforms signed agreement to purchase up to 1 GW of space‑based solar energy from startup Overview Energy.
The space solar plant is under development with an orbital demonstration slated for 2028 and commercial delivery expected by 2030.
Meta did not disclose terms, but the deal backs its AI infrastructure spending of hundreds of billions on energy and computing.
Nat Sahlstrom, Meta’s VP of energy and sustainability, said the company expects clean, uninterrupted power from Overview Energy.
