Overview

The MGF Group, originally founded in 1930 as Motor and General Finance to provide automobile financing and financial services, entered the Indian real estate sector in 1997 with the creation of MGF Developments Ltd, marking its first diversification beyond finance.

Retail and Commercial Development

Since then, MGF Developments has built more than five million square feet of retail space. Notable projects include The Metropolitan, Megacity Mall, City Square Mall and MGF Metropolitan Mall located in Delhi, Gurgaon and Jaipur, illustrating the group’s focus on integrated shopping destinations that combine retail, entertainment, food and leisure.

Emaar‑MGF Joint Venture

In 2005, MGF formed a joint venture with Dubai‑based Emaar Properties, creating the entity Emaar MGF. Shravan Gupta, who had been with MGF for many years, was appointed Executive Vice Chairman and Managing Director of the venture and served in that capacity until June 2016.

Broader Real Estate Portfolio

The group now operates across residential, commercial, retail and hospitality segments. Its development philosophy emphasizes strategic location, connectivity, quality construction, reliable infrastructure, sustainable practices, community amenities and long‑term demand, reflecting the evolving expectations of Indian urban buyers and investors.

Shravan Gupta’s Role

Shravan Gupta’s career spans over 15 years in financial services and real estate. His early involvement with MGF’s real‑estate arm preceded his leadership at Emaar MGF, giving him exposure to both financing and development aspects of property projects.

Future Outlook

The narrative highlights that continued urbanisation in India will generate further opportunities in mixed‑use, energy‑efficient and technology‑enabled communities. MGF’s experience across multiple real‑estate segments positions it to adapt to these trends.
