Foundation Stone Laid for Guntur-Nambur Road Over Bridge
The Ministry of Railways has initiated the construction of a four-lane Road Over Bridge (ROB) between Guntur and Nambur railway stations, with the foundation stone laid on September 26, 2026. The project, sanctioned at an estimated cost of ₹108 crore, is entirely funded by the Ministry of Railways and will replace Level Crossing Gate No. 3 on the Guntur-Krishna Canal section of the Guntur-Nambur line.
The 668-meter long bridge is situated near the Inner Ring Road of Guntur City and will directly connect Bus Stand Road with Gorantla Village. The project requires 2.9 acres of land, and construction works are scheduled to commence shortly. Key benefits include the elimination of gate detentions, seamless flow of city vehicular traffic, fuel savings, enhanced train punctuality, and upgraded urban safety.
Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, Shri V. Somanna, emphasized that Indian Railways accords top priority to passenger safety and operational efficiency, noting that eliminating level crossing gates through modern ROBs is essential for achieving zero accidents and punctuality. He highlighted that the Central Government is modernizing rail infrastructure across Andhra Pradesh, with 74 railway stations in the state receiving modern world-class amenities through an investment of ₹3,500 crores.
Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, reiterated the Centre's commitment to rapid expansion of Andhra Pradesh's transport infrastructure, emphasizing close synergy between Central and State departments to fast-track key road and rail projects in the Guntur region.
The event was attended by General Manager of South Coast Railway Shri Sandeep Mathur, Divisional Railway Manager Guntur Smt. Sudheshna Sen, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Shri Bashyam Ramakrishna, and several Members of Legislative Assembly including Shri Dhulipalla Narendra Kumar (Ponnur), Shri Mohammed Nazeer (East Guntur), Smt. Galla Madhavi (West Guntur), and Shri B. R. Ramanjaneyulu (Prathipadu).
