MMTC-PAMP Launches 8,000‑Piece Virasat Gold Coin
On Tuesday, 4 August 2026, at the Taj Mansingh hotel in New Delhi, MMTC‑PAMP India Pvt. Ltd. introduced a commemorative 10‑gram gold coin named Virasat – Celebrating 80th Year of India’s Independence. The coin is minted from 999.9+ fine (24 K) recycled gold, bears a premium minted finish, and is sealed in tamper‑proof packaging that includes an Assayer‑certified minted card and a unique identification number. Each piece carries a positive weight tolerance, guaranteeing customers receive more than the stated weight.
The edition is strictly limited to 8,000 pieces and will be made available through MMTC‑PAMP’s own retail stores, authorised channel partners and the company’s website (www.mmtcpamp.com/shop/gold/10-gm-gold-999-minted-coin-virasat).
The launch was officiated by Olympic silver medallist and three‑time Commonwealth Games gold medallist Mirabai Chanu, who was presented with the inaugural Virasat coin in recognition of her contributions to Indian sport. The event was attended by Mr. Samit Guha, Managing Director & CEO of MMTC‑PAMP, Mr. Gaurav Nijhawan, Head of Marketing, and Mr. Kashish Vasishtha, Deputy General Manager – Marketing.
In his remarks, Mr. Guha stated that the Virasat coin serves as a tribute to a nation that inspires the world through resilience, innovation and achievement, and aligns with MMTC‑PAMP’s commitment to a responsible and self‑reliant precious‑metals ecosystem through sustainable practices such as gold recycling. He linked the launch to the Government of India’s broader Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision of reducing dependence on imported gold and conserving foreign‑exchange reserves.
MMTC‑PAMP highlighted that India remains one of the world’s largest gold consumers, importing over 90 % of its annual requirement. In FY2025‑26, gold imports reached nearly USD 72 billion, underscoring the importance of expanding domestic recycling capacity. The company currently operates 17 gold‑recycling stores across the country and is continuously expanding its recycling infrastructure to make the process more accessible and transparent. Earlier in the year, MMTC‑PAMP also launched India’s first organised buy‑back programme for silver coins, bars and jewellery, enabling consumers to sell silver holdings through a secure, circular‑economy channel.
MMTC‑PAMP is a joint venture between Switzerland‑based bullion refiner MKS PAMP SA and MMTC Ltd, a Miniratna and Government of India undertaking. It is the only LBMA‑accredited gold and silver good‑delivery refiner in India, combining Swiss technical expertise with Indian market insight. The company has received multiple awards for refining excellence, branding and sustainability, including science‑based emissions‑reduction targets approved by the Science‑Based Targets initiative (SBTI), recognition from the Asia and India Book of Records, and the title of India’s Most Trusted Brand of the Nation (2024).
The Virasat coin, beyond being a collectible, embodies the values of resilience, innovation and responsibility that MMTC‑PAMP associates with India’s past, present and future, and reinforces the firm’s long‑term commitment to building an organised, sustainable precious‑metals ecosystem in the country.
