Announcement
Mobileye (NASDAQ: MBLY) reported that its shares increased by roughly 5% on Tuesday following the disclosure of a new vertically integrated robotaxi business. The company said the autonomous‑driving technology venture will launch in a major U.S. metropolitan area in 2027.
Fleet Plan
Mobileye intends to field an initial fleet of about 100 fully driverless vehicles in 2027, with deployment phased throughout the year under completely autonomous conditions. After the initial rollout, the firm plans to expand the fleet to approximately 17,000 vehicles over the subsequent five‑year period.
Technology Integration
The robotaxi operation will merge Mobileye’s proprietary Mobileye Drive system with the capabilities of its Moovit subsidiary, including the Mobility Platform, consumer‑facing applications, multi‑modal trip planning, autonomous‑vehicle mission control, and fleet‑management technologies. Mobileye will collaborate with AV‑ready vehicle platform manufacturers, fleet operators, vehicle‑integration partners, and other technology suppliers to deliver an end‑to‑end autonomous‑vehicle platform.
Existing Business Continuity
Mobileye emphasized that the new initiative complements its existing model of supplying autonomous‑driving technology to automakers and mobility providers, and it remains committed to providing Mobileye Drive to those customers.
Market Reach
To date, more than 230 million vehicles worldwide have been produced with Mobileye technology. Moovit’s mobility platform currently serves over 1.7 billion users across more than 3,500 cities in 112 countries.
