Key Operational Details & Expansion Plan
Mukka Proteins Limited detailed the commercial roadmap and operational capacities for its project converting municipal wet waste in Bengaluru into bio-derivatives using Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens) bioconversion.
Current and Projected Processing Capacity:
- Current Intake: The facility is currently processing 200 Tonnes Per Day (TPD) of organic wet waste.
- Near-Term Target: The intake is expected to reach 400 TPD by March 2027.
- Peak Capacity Target: The operation is planned to be scaled up gradually to process 1,000 TPD by December 2027.
Process Efficiency: The Black Soldier Fly larval stage delivers an 80% mass reduction of raw organic waste within a 10 to 14-day cycle.
Product Outputs: The process converts waste into four distinct product streams:
1. Insect Protein Meal: Yields >50% crude protein for use in aquafeed, poultry, and pet food.
2. Industrial & Feed-Grade Insect Oil: Rich in medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) and lauric acid.
3. Insect Frass Organic Compost: A high-grade, odorless organic fertilizer.
4. Humic Acid & Bio-stimulants: High-purity organic conditioning agents for agriculture.
Corporate Context and Market Opportunity
Consolidated Corporate Capabilities: The new initiative complements the company's existing animal nutrition manufacturing footprint of over 2,91,720 MTPA (Metric Tonnes Per Annum) of conventional marine protein/oil processing capacity across India and Oman.
Market Context (Bengaluru): The city generates over 4,000 metric tonnes of solid waste daily, of which 50-60% is biodegradable wet waste.
Global and Domestic Market Outlook:
- The global market for insect meal and lipids is projected to exceed $3.5+ Billion by 2030.
- High domestic demand exists across commercial shrimp/fish aquaculture, poultry hatcheries, and pet-food manufacturing.
- The global agricultural bio-stimulant market is growing at an 11%+ CAGR.
- The initiative aligns with national soil health initiatives (Bharatiya Prakritik Krishi Paddhati) and municipal zero-waste mandates.
ESG and Additional Revenue Streams
The diversion of organic waste from landfills into bioconversion mitigates greenhouse gas emissions. The company is integrating these facilities with global carbon credit verification frameworks (including Verra registry standards), which is expected to add carbon credit revenue streams.
