Narayana Health City in Bengaluru successfully performed India’s first Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA) for atrial fibrillation, completing the procedure in 35 minutes versus up to four hours with traditional thermal ablation.
The PFA procedure utilizes imported technology platforms from Johnson & Johnson, Abbott, Boston Scientific and Medtronic, and is offered at a price as low as Rs 2.5 lakhs, aiming to improve accessibility across socio‑economic groups.
Founder and Chairman Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty described PFA as a safer, minimally invasive breakthrough that could redefine cardiac rhythm management in India, emphasizing the need for rigorous clinical evaluation and structured physician training.
The team of electrophysiologists (Dr. Deepak Padmanabhan, Dr. Kapil Kumawat, Dr. Debabrata Bera) highlighted benefits such as reduced hospital stay (typically one night), quicker return to work, and the potential to scale therapy for India’s large and growing AFib patient population.
