Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), the Singrauli-based flagship arm of Coal India, has launched the preparatory phase of 'Special Campaign 6.0' from September 15 to September 30, 2026, as directed by the Ministry of Coal. The implementation phase will run from October 2 to October 31, 2026. The campaign focuses on e-waste management, cleanliness, office premises upgradation, records management, scrap disposal, and optimum utilization of unused spaces.

NCL has set specific targets for the campaign: cleaning 90 identified sites, covering 100,000 square feet area under cleanliness drives, disposing approximately 3,500 metric tonnes of scrap, and reviewing 400 physical files and 9,000 e-files to facilitate timely disposal of records and improved space utilization. The company has appointed nodal teams across all Areas and Units to implement campaign activities.

During the preparatory phase, NCL is identifying locations requiring focused cleanliness and maintenance. Under the 'Adopt-a-Spot' initiative, cleanliness teams will take responsibility for identified locations, ensuring regular cleaning and maintenance, along with plantation and beautification activities where required. The campaign also emphasizes identifying underutilized or unused spaces in offices for cleaning, reorganization, and alternative utilization, while identifying unnecessary files, old furniture, scrap, and obsolete materials for reuse, disposal, or scrapping.

Records management streamlining includes scanning and digitizing old physical records with proper indexing and archiving. For e-waste management, electronic scrap and plastic waste will be assessed, collected, and segregated systematically with safe disposal and recycling. The campaign promotes 'Waste to Wealth' initiatives to reuse waste materials and create useful resources.

The campaign also focuses on improving efficiency through timely disposal of pending references, grievances, and other matters. NCL will encourage 5S/3S-based activities across offices to ensure cleanliness and systematic organization of workstations, record rooms, and common areas. Awareness initiatives include 'Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan', walkathons, shramdaan, street plays, rallies, wall painting, essay writing, and quiz competitions to promote cleanliness, waste management, and environmental practices.

Notably, NCL exceeded its Special Campaign 5.0 targets: cleaned 91 sites against target of 75, organized cleanliness drives covering 100,400 square feet against target of 85,000 square feet, disposed 3,459 metric tonnes of scrap against target of 2,500 metric tonnes while generating revenue of ₹16,55,14,888, reviewed 371 files against target of 350 and weeded out 180 files, and reviewed 9,800 e-files against target of 9,000 e-files while closing 5,500 e-files.
