Neelam Hospital Robotic Surgery Milestone
Neelam Hospital, located in Rajpura, Punjab, announced that it has completed more than 100 robotic surgeries using the Toumai® Robotic Surgical System supplied by MedBot within a six‑month period. This achievement translates to roughly one Toumai‑assisted procedure every two days, underscoring the rapid acquisition of surgical expertise, the training of operating‑room teams, and the systematic integration of the technology into routine clinical practice.
The programme was spearheaded by Dr. Nitin Gupta, Medical Director and Head Robotic Surgeon, and Dr. Shikha Gupta, Director of Neelam Hospital, both of whom underwent specialised training abroad. Dr. Gaurika Aggarwal also received overseas training to support the robotic‑assisted procedures. During a ceremony, Srinivas Iyer of MedBot presented a memento to Dr. Nitin Gupta and Dr. Shikha Gupta, acknowledging the milestone.
According to Dr. Nitin Gupta, the hospital’s vision is to bring advanced technology and specialised healthcare facilities to the region, and reaching the 100‑surgery mark reflects months of coordinated training across surgeons, assistants, anaesthesia, nursing and technical staff. Dr. Shikha Gupta highlighted that the rapid attainment of the 100‑surgery threshold demonstrates the team’s successful navigation of the learning curve inherent to robotic surgery.
Robotic‑assisted surgery, when appropriately selected, offers minimally invasive benefits such as smaller incisions, reduced blood loss, less postoperative pain, and faster recovery, enabling patients to return to routine activities more quickly. The hospital’s broader objective is to expand access to such advanced minimally invasive care for patients from Punjab as well as neighbouring Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, thereby reducing the need for patients to travel to larger metropolitan centres for specialised treatment.
The record adds to Neelam Hospital’s ongoing investment in advanced medical technology, specialised clinical services and infrastructure, reinforcing its role as a regional healthcare destination.
