The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is implementing an initiative to install Retrofit Emission Control Devices (RECDs) on 25 Diesel Generator (DG) sets deployed at the 8.7 km long Package-IV of the Dwarka Expressway, which connects Basai to Kherki Dhaula/Delhi-Gurugram Expressway cloverleaf intersection. This environmental protection measure is being undertaken in compliance with directions from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) concerning regulation of DG sets in the National Capital Region, with the specific objective of mitigating air pollution during winter under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

The RECDs will be installed on DG sets used for expressway lighting and other associated operations, thereby strengthening emission-control measures during their operation. The implementation involves installation, testing, commissioning of the RECDs, along with comprehensive maintenance support. NHAI has specified that GPS-tagged photographs of RECD installations at each DG-set location will be maintained for verification and compliance purposes.

This initiative represents part of NHAI's broader approach towards integrating environmental protection into national highway construction and operation, particularly for projects located in the NCR region that experiences severe air pollution during winter months. The measure ensures that DG sets required for essential national highway-related operations are equipped with appropriate emission-control systems in line with the applicable regulatory framework and air-quality norms.
