The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, achieved significant results under Special Campaign 6 focused on cleanliness, sustainability and green campus initiatives. The campaign was formally inaugurated at the NIFT Delhi campus on October 2, 2026, with the participation of the Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles and other senior officers and Directors, running through October 31, 2026.
Comprehensive cleanliness activities were undertaken across academic blocks, workshops, canteens, hostels, corridors, rooftops, storage areas and common spaces, including removal of cobwebs, accumulated dust, garbage and unwanted materials. Cleaning of furniture, fans, computer equipment, water tanks and drainage systems contributed to improved campus hygiene and sanitation.
The campaign emphasized waste segregation and responsible disposal, with e-waste and scrap disposed according to prescribed procedures. Digital housekeeping was strengthened through disposal of e-files and weeding out of physical records to optimize storage space.
Environmental sustainability initiatives included plantation, horticulture, tree trimming and pruning activities to enhance campus greenery. A demonstration on preparing biodegradable compost using leaves, fruit waste and leftover food items was organized to promote productive utilization of organic waste.
NIFT undertook the innovative 'Craft from Waste' activity, transforming discarded materials into useful and decorative articles to beautify campus areas while promoting reuse, recycling and waste reduction principles.
Infrastructure maintenance included inspection and rectification of electrical installations, repair of defective switches, sockets and hanging wires, maintenance of lifts, hostel buildings, doors, furniture, fixtures and perimeter fencing. Anti-termite treatment and pest control activities were carried out across academic, administrative and residential blocks, along with cleaning and maintenance of heaters, blowers, geysers, HVAC systems, air conditioners, Air Handling Units and air filtration units.
Student participation was encouraged through competitions including slogan-making on 'Importance of Swachhata and E-Waste Management', along with painting and poem competitions on Swachhata. Awareness materials including posters, banners, placards and standees were displayed at prominent locations, with winners felicitated to encourage continued participation.
On October 27, 2026, NIFT recognized the contribution of sanitation and housekeeping personnel by felicitating them for their dedicated efforts in maintaining campus cleanliness and sanitation, acknowledging their important role in maintaining a clean and healthy institutional environment.
The campaign demonstrated NIFT's commitment to the Ministry of Textiles' vision for promoting cleanliness, environmental sustainability and responsible resource management through collective participation, innovative practices and sustained efforts.
