Overview
On September 9, 2026, NIPPON EXPRESS HOLDINGS, INC. (NX Group) formalised a strategic cooperation memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), an initiative overseen by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) of the Government of India. Purpose and Scope
The MOU sets out a framework for the two parties to collaborate on developing semiconductor logistics infrastructure in India and to strengthen the resilience of semiconductor supply chains. Both sides will share information, exchange views on transportation challenges—particularly vibration control and regional infrastructure constraints—and explore appropriate forms of cooperation to build logistics and warehouse facilities that support India’s semiconductor ecosystem.
Policy Context
The cooperation aligns with India’s "Semicon 2.0" policy, the second phase of the national semiconductor programme, which seeks to create a comprehensive industrial ecosystem covering semiconductor design, manufacturing, equipment, materials, and advanced packaging. Developing advanced logistics capabilities is identified as essential to achieving the policy’s objectives.
NX Group Strategic Targets
NX Group regards India as a key market for its long‑term vision of becoming a globally strong logistics provider. It has set a sales target of 60 billion yen from its Indian operations by fiscal year 2028. To support this ambition, the Group plans to open a dedicated semiconductor logistics centre in the Dholera area of Gujarat in 2027, expanding its logistics facilities and services in the country.
Prior Engagements
The MOU formalises earlier dialogues, including a visit by an ISM delegation to the NX Group building in Chiyoda‑ku, Tokyo, on January 27, 2026. That visit laid the groundwork for the present strategic cooperation.
Implementation Outlook
Leveraging its global network and logistics expertise, NX Group will work with customers and partners to build sustainable supply chains and address social challenges associated with semiconductor logistics. No specific financial terms of the MOU were disclosed beyond the sales target and the planned 2027 logistics centre.
