Net Zero Roadmap Strategies

The company has identified six key strategies for its Net Zero pathway:

Emission Reduction Target

NMDC has set an overall target of achieving a minimum 90% reduction in operational emissions as part of its Net Zero pathway. The remaining emissions will be addressed through offsetting measures as the roadmap progresses.

Existing Initiatives

NMDC has already implemented several renewable energy projects:

  • 10.5 MW wind energy facility at Chitradurga
  • Solar power installations across its projects

Logistics and Transportation Decarbonization

The company's logistics infrastructure is expected to contribute to broader decarbonization efforts:

  • Upcoming slurry pipeline project will provide greener downstream transportation solution
  • Project will reduce dependence on conventional transportation and associated warehousing requirements
  • Plans to increase movement of iron ore through rail freight
  • Doubling of railway lines and supply infrastructure development around operations
  • Greater use of rail transportation expected to reduce carbon intensity of mineral movement

Implementation Timeline

The Net Zero roadmap is divided into three phases:

  • Short-term phase: FY 2026 to FY 2030
  • Medium-term phase: FY 2030 to FY 2040
  • Long-term phase: FY 2040 to FY 2047

Implementation Approach

The company plans to progressively implement identified measures across the three phases:

  • Energy efficiency, renewable energy adoption, and electrification will form key components of initial transition
  • Deeper decarbonization measures and emerging technologies will be implemented in subsequent phases
