The agreement was signed on June 10, 2026, on the sidelines of the Global Energy Show 2026 in Calgary, Canada. The collaboration aims to strengthen friendly relations between Canada and India and address global challenges related to energy transition and sustainability.

The specific areas of cooperation include:
- Utilization of captured CO2 through permanent storage via geological sequestration and mineralization in geological formations
- Innovative enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods to reduce environmental impacts and energy use of oil/gas production
- Identification of business opportunities in both countries through established networks and partners
- Identification of potential geothermal projects of mutual interest
- Collaborative research through both OIL and PTRC's Energy Innovation Hub lab on projects involving subsurface energy production and subsurface storage
- Collaborative research interests with mc2+ for startups, a platform created under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India
