Announcement Overview

OMRON Healthcare Co., Ltd., a global leader in clinically proven home health monitoring devices, announced the commencement of full‑scale production of blood pressure monitors at its first Indian manufacturing facility located near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The plant, operated by OMRON HEALTHCARE MANUFACTURING INDIA Pvt. Ltd., opened its production lines to domestic and international media on 30 October 2026, marking the transition from pilot to commercial output.

Facility Details

The factory occupies approximately 24,000 square metres within the ORIGINS by Mahindra campus at Plot Nos. I‑9 & I‑10A, Origins Mahindra World City, Peruvoyal Village, Gummidipoondi Taluk, Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, PIN 601206. It houses five production lines that manufacture three blood‑pressure‑monitor series—HEM‑7090 (standard upper‑arm model for first‑time users), HEM‑7181 (upper‑arm model with Trend Indicator and memory function), and HEM‑7183T (upper‑arm model with Trend Indicator, easy‑wrap Fit Cuff, and Bluetooth connectivity to the OMRON Connect app). Production technology and quality‑control processes are derived from OMRON’s Matsusaka factory in Japan and its sister facility in Vietnam, ensuring measurement accuracy and quality comparable to devices supplied to international markets.

Corporate and Operational Context

OMRON Healthcare has been operating in India since 2010, engaging in hypertension awareness campaigns, academic research support, and collaboration with the Indian Society of Hypertension to develop the country’s first home‑blood‑pressure‑monitoring guidelines. The Chennai factory was incorporated in July 2022, with a paid‑up capital of INR 1.91 billion and a workforce of roughly 120 employees. Full‑scale production commenced in October 2026.

Strategic Rationale and Market Need

India faces a substantial cardiovascular health challenge, with an estimated 300 million individuals living with hypertension and the World Health Organization identifying cardiovascular diseases as leading causes of death. Lifestyle changes accompanying an average 7 % annual GDP growth are expected to increase hypertension prevalence further. Yet fewer than 5 % of Indian households regularly use a home blood‑pressure monitor, and access to healthcare services remains limited in many regions. By strengthening domestic supply, OMRON aims to promote wider home monitoring, earlier risk identification, and improved hypertension management.

Future Expansion Plans

OMRON intends to expand the Chennai facility’s production capacity tenfold by 2028, positioning the plant as a stable supply base for the Indian market and a potential export hub for international markets. The company also plans to introduce nebulizer production at the site to address respiratory conditions such as asthma, thereby broadening the range of home‑healthcare devices manufactured in India.

Executive Commentary

Ayumu Okada, President and CEO of OMRON Healthcare Co., Ltd., stated that the factory’s launch aligns with the OMRON Group’s “Shaping the Future 2030” vision, which targets carbon neutrality, a digital society, and extended healthy life expectancy. He highlighted the growing awareness of preventive health in India and the importance of locally tailored products, public‑awareness activities, and collaboration with healthcare professionals to address cardiovascular challenges. Takuto Iwanaka, Managing Director of OMRON Healthcare Manufacturing India Pvt. Ltd., underscored the plant’s contribution to the Make‑in‑India initiative through local component sourcing, workforce development, and employment creation.

Global Footprint Context

Globally, OMRON Healthcare has sold over 400 million home‑use digital blood‑pressure monitors as of September 2025 and operates in more than 130 countries. The company’s broader mission is to advance health and empower people worldwide, focusing on cardiovascular condition management, respiratory care, and pain therapy.
