Announcement Overview
On 10 September 2026, at the Venice Film Festival, Orenda Group – a multi‑sector holding platform headed by Chartered Accountant‑entrepreneur Tarun Shah – announced the creation of the Orenda Media Growth Fund, an Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) sized at INR 100 crore. The fund is being launched in partnership with national award‑winning actor‑producer Manasi Parekh, singer‑performer‑producer Parthiv Gohil, and LA‑based actor‑producer Rashaana Shah. SEBI approval for the fund’s licence is expected within a month, after which the subscription window will open.
Fund Structure and Investment Focus
The AIF is structured with a four‑year tenure and a projected internal rate of return (IRR) of 30%. Its investment mandate centres on premium media and entertainment ventures, including international feature films, prestige productions, and globally marketable content. Asset allocation is earmarked at 50% for motion pictures, 30% for media and entertainment start‑ups, and 20% for the creation of original intellectual property, which encompasses live‑event IPs. The diversified construct is intended to mitigate the single‑project risk that has traditionally characterised film financing in India.
> “Creative businesses in India have never lacked talent or ambition, it’s lacked structure and discipline. Our objective with Orenda Media Growth Fund is to bring the governance, reporting discipline and transparency of regulated fund management to an industry that has largely operated on individual project financing,” said Tarun Shah, Co‑Promoter, Orenda Group.
The press release notes that the fund is “one of the very few institutional funds in the Indian media and entertainment industry.”
Track Record of the Promoters
The partners’ production house, Soul Sutra, previously delivered ‘Kutch Express’, which secured three National Film Awards, including Best Actress for Manasi Parekh. Soul Sutra also backed ‘Lalo’, the first Gujarati film to cross the INR 130 crore collection milestone. Additionally, the company has successfully distributed multiple Gujarati films across 41 countries.
> “Great stories transcend borders, languages, and cultures. Our vision is to empower filmmakers and creators who dare to tell meaningful, transformative stories while building a sustainable investment ecosystem for high‑quality media,” said Parthiv Gohil.
Initial Film Slate
During the Venice event, the fund unveiled its maiden slate of three international films at various stages of development:
- ‘Purple America’ – an adaptation of award‑winning American author Rick Moody’s novel, exploring family, mortality, trauma and love.
- ‘Nanda Devi’ – a high‑concept international mystery thriller set against the Himalayas.
- ‘Laxman’ – an inspiring story of a young boy who turns his dream of caring for abandoned cows into a movement.
