Announcement Overview
On 10 September 2026 in Venice, Orenda Group – a multi‑sector holding platform led by Chartered Accountant‑turned‑entrepreneur Tarun Shah – joined forces with national award‑winning actor‑producer Manasi Parekh, singer‑performer‑producer Parthiv Gohil, and LA‑based actor‑producer Rashaana Shah to launch the Orenda Media Growth Fund, an Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) sized at INR 100 crore.
Fund Structure and Targets
The fund is structured as a four‑year vehicle with a projected internal rate of return (IRR) of 30%. Its allocation policy earmarks 50% of capital for motion pictures, 30% for media and entertainment start‑ups, and 20% for the creation of original intellectual property, including live‑event IPs. The design aims to diversify risk away from single‑project financing, a practice the promoters view as historically prevalent in Indian film financing.
Regulatory and Subscription Timeline
Orenda Group, which is already managing a US$120 million multi‑sector fund, expects to receive the SEBI licence for the AIF within a month. Following licence issuance, the fund will open for subscription to investors.
Investment Focus
The fund will target premium media and entertainment ventures, encompassing international feature films, prestige productions, globally marketable content, premium streaming formats, documentaries, cross‑border productions, media‑technology and AI‑driven ventures, and live‑event IPs that can traverse multiple markets.
Promoter Commentary
Tarun Shah, Co‑Promoter of Orenda Group, stated that “Creative businesses in India have never lacked talent or ambition; it has lacked structure and discipline. Our objective with Orenda Media Growth Fund is to bring the governance, reporting discipline and transparency of regulated fund management to an industry that has largely operated on individual project financing.” He emphasized that the diversified portfolio allows investors to capture sector upside without the risk of any single project.
Track Record of the Founders
The founders’ production house Soul Sutra delivered Kutch Express, which secured three National Film Awards, including Best Actress for Manasi Parekh. Soul Sutra also backed Lalo, which achieved a collection of INR 130 crore, marking the first Gujarati film to cross that threshold, and has distributed multiple Gujarati titles across 41 countries.
Parthiv Gohil added, “Great stories transcend borders, languages, and cultures. Our vision is to empower filmmakers and creators who dare to tell meaningful, transformative stories while building a sustainable investment ecosystem for high‑quality media.”
Maiden Film Slate
At the Venice Film Festival, the team unveiled a slate of three international films at various development stages:
- Purple America – an adaptation of award‑winning American author Rick Moody’s novel, exploring family, mortality, trauma and love.
- Nanda Devi – a high‑concept international mystery thriller set against the Himalayas.
- Laxman – an inspiring narrative of a young boy who turns his dream of caring for abandoned cows into a movement.
