Press Release – 5 November 2026
Pathways World School, an International Baccalaureate (IB) institution in Gurgaon, announced the development of a structured framework for responsible artificial intelligence (AI) use in education. The initiative was presented in a two‑day workshop held on 25‑26 September, convening students, faculty, school leaders, members of an AI Advisory Group, IT teams and parents.
The workshop was led by Rita Bateson, co‑founder and Director of Education at Eblana Learning, an experienced IB educator and former IB curriculum leader. Malcolm (Malcom) Nicolson, School Director of Pathways World School, and author of the forthcoming International School Leaders’ Guide to AI, also participated. Pranay Jain, Director of Pathways World School, highlighted the school’s history of pioneering technology, noting that in 2003 Pathways Gurgaon became the first school in India to deploy campus‑wide wireless connectivity.
Governance and Risk Management (Day 1)
The first day focused on establishing governance principles, risk‑management protocols and detailed guidelines covering three core pillars: academic integrity, data privacy and student wellbeing.
Implementation and Literacy (Day 2)
The second day moved to practical implementation, including AI literacy training for administrators, creation of instructional resources, safe data‑handling procedures and planning for initial classroom pilots.
Student and Teacher Responsibilities
Under the proposed framework, students will be required to:
- Question AI‑generated responses and recognise potential bias or inaccuracies;
- Protect personal information; and
- Disclose transparently how AI contributed to their work.
Teachers will retain full professional judgement over teaching and assessment, model responsible AI usage and guide students in applying the guardrails.
Policy Finalisation and Pilot Rollout
Pathways World School is finalising its AI policy and developing age‑appropriate guidance for learners at different stages. Initial classroom pilots will be launched first to assess impact before any wider rollout. Orientation sessions for students, teachers and parents will be conducted to build a shared understanding of AI’s potential, limitations and responsible use.
Strategic Ambition
The school’s ambition extends beyond preparing students for a changing technological landscape; it seeks to enable learners to use AI with curiosity, discernment and confidence while preserving intellectual independence and critical inquiry. The overarching conviction is that technology should expand learning possibilities without diminishing the thinking that makes education meaningful.
