PB Fintech Seeks 40M Health Insured 2031

PB Fintech, the parent of Policybazaar and Paisabazaar, participated in the first episode of a five‑part series organized by Why Not Mint Money and Policybazaar to discuss the structural changes required for India to become a developed economy by 2047. The episode featured a conversation between Monika Halan and Yashish Dahiya, Chairman and Group CEO of PB Fintech. Dahiya noted that credit‑card penetration stands at fewer than 50 million users, retail health‑insurance at 60 million, and term‑insurance at 15 million, each representing roughly a 3 % family‑level penetration across the country. He emphasized that to achieve the next 30 % of the population—approximately half a billion people—served, the ecosystem must shift from a capacity‑based model to a data‑driven approach that leverages transparent, scientific underwriting.

The discussion highlighted that better access to granular data would enable more accurate risk assessment, allowing loans, insurance and other financial products to reach millions currently excluded due to insufficient information. Dahiya stressed that claims are non‑negotiable and that mis‑selling must be avoided; product suitability should be matched to an individual’s age, goals, risk appetite and financial circumstances rather than a one‑size‑fits‑all distribution model.

PB Fintech’s healthcare arm, PB HEALTH, was presented as the next phase of the company’s evolution. Dahiya outlined a vision of integrated healthcare networks that align incentives among insurers, hospitals and patients, thereby reducing friction and improving outcomes. PB HEALTH aims to serve nearly 40 million health‑insurance customers by the fiscal year 2030‑31. At current utilisation rates, this customer base would require access to roughly 32,000 hospital beds, underscoring the need for more coordinated and efficient delivery models.

Overall, the conversation positioned data, transparency, scientific underwriting and long‑term trust as the pillars for expanding insurance and healthcare access, aligning with the broader goal of building a Viksit Bharat.
