Pladis, the owner of McVitie’s, GODIVA and Ülker, announced on 28 July 2026 that it will double the volume of products offering a better nutritional balance by 2030. The target focuses on reducing sugar, salt and saturated fat while increasing fibre and protein. Currently, products identified by the company’s new global nutrition framework represent approximately 10 percent of its sales volume; the ambition is to double that volume within the next seven years.

The framework draws on internationally recognised nutrition systems – France’s Nutri‑Score, Australia’s Health Star Rating and the United Kingdom’s Nutrient Profile Model (HFSS). It will be applied across all pladis products to guide development, reformulation and marketing, assessing nutrients to increase (fibre, protein) and nutrients to decrease (salt, sugar, saturated fat).

To date, pladis has removed 676 tonnes of sugar from its UK recipes – equivalent to about 169 million teaspoons (based on 4 g per teaspoon). In the Netherlands, the company revamped its Sultana fruit biscuits by lowering sugar and salt and raising fibre. Over the past decade, its Ülker brand eliminated 549 tonnes of fat from its product range, alongside reductions in sugar and salt.

The company will achieve the 2030 goal by improving existing recipes without compromising taste, launching new products, and expanding successful ranges into additional markets. Dr Jennifer Moss, Chief R&D Officer at pladis, emphasized that taste remains paramount while offering consumers more choices aligned with lifestyle and wellbeing goals.

The pledge forms part of the “Happy People, Happy Planet” global sustainability strategy. Pladis employs roughly 16,000 people and sells its products in more than 110 countries. All targets are based on a 2023 data baseline.
