Acquisition Overview

Qashier, a global leader in point‑of‑sale and restaurant management solutions, announced the acquisition of Gatoes, a restaurant‑technology platform founded in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir. The deal is described as one of the most significant startup exits from the region.

About Gatoes

Founded by Jibran Gulzar, a Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia honoree, Gatoes developed a SaaS‑style merchant‑enablement platform that integrates order management, digital customer reach, and marketing tools for independent restaurants. At its peak, the company had onboarded more than 3,000 restaurant partners, built a customer base exceeding 2.2 million users, facilitated millions of digital orders, and employed over 400 people across Kashmir in delivery, operations, and merchant support roles. Within the first seven months of operation as a fully bootstrapped venture, Gatoes crossed $1 million in total order value and signed up over 1,450 merchants.

Strategic Rationale

The acquisition brings Gatoes’ ordering infrastructure into Qashier’s broader restaurant‑management ecosystem, enhancing Qashier’s digital ordering and merchant‑enablement capabilities. Industry observers note that restaurant‑tech providers are consolidating beyond point‑of‑sale systems into unified platforms covering ordering, payments, logistics, and customer engagement.

Founder’s Comments

Gulzar stated that building Gatoes revealed the complexity of digital restaurant commerce and emphasized the goal of enabling restaurants to participate in online ordering without sacrificing margins. He indicated he will remain in a build role to apply lessons from Gatoes to future technology ventures.

Significance for Kashmir

The transaction highlights the potential for startups originating outside India’s traditional tech hubs to achieve national and global relevance, signalling growing confidence in the Jammu & Kashmir startup ecosystem. No financial terms of the acquisition were disclosed.
