Rajalakshmi Engineering College Sets World Record at AI NEXUS 2026
On July 20, 2026, Rajalakshmi Engineering College (REC) in Chennai hosted its flagship AI Tech Summit, AI NEXUS 2026, during which 1,000 students each independently designed, developed, tested and submitted a fully functional agentic AI bot within a two‑hour window. This simultaneous creation of 1,000 agentic AI bots established a new world record, verified by Christopher Taylor Craft, Records Manager of the World Record Union, who confirmed that all prescribed international guidelines and documentation requirements were satisfied before officially declaring the record and presenting the citation to REC’s Principal, Dr. S. N. Murugesan, on behalf of the institution.
The event was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister for Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology & Digital Services, Government of Tamil Nadu, Dr. Kumar R (Hons). In his inaugural address, Dr. Kumar R highlighted the transformative role of AI in India’s digital future and lauded REC for creating a platform that integrates industry, innovation and education to prepare graduates for an AI‑driven economy. He praised the college’s vision of empowering students to become innovators, entrepreneurs and global technology leaders.
Key institutional leaders present included Dr. (Mrs.) Thangam Meganathan, Chairperson of the Rajalakshmi Group of Institutions, who reaffirmed the college’s commitment to building one of India’s most vibrant AI innovation ecosystems through world‑class education, industry collaboration and experiential learning, and Dr. S. N. Murugesan, Principal, who emphasized that the world‑record achievement symbolizes what young minds can accomplish when provided with the right mentorship and opportunities.
Following the inauguration, the REC campus transformed into an AI innovation arena featuring multiple concurrent events:
- AI Innovation Expo 2026 showcased breakthrough student‑driven AI solutions addressing real‑world challenges.
- CyberShield AI Challenge was an AI‑powered cybersecurity hackathon focused on practical problem solving.
- AI Conclave brought together eminent AI leaders and senior industry experts to discuss responsible AI, future careers and emerging technologies.
- Animate with AI 2026 offered an immersive workshop on AI‑driven animation and storytelling.
- AI Marketing ShowDown demonstrated the impact of generative AI on branding and digital marketing.
- AI in Academia served as a faculty development programme to help educators integrate AI into teaching, research and academic excellence.
The college positioned the world‑record accomplishment as a catalyst for a broader movement, urging students to innovate fearlessly and build technologies that generate societal impact. A concluding quote from the event underscored the sentiment: “Today's World Record is not the finish line—it is the starting point of a generation that will build the future of Artificial Intelligence.”
