Razorpay Introduces RAY – AI‑Powered Account Manager on WhatsApp
Razorpay, the Indian omnichannel payments platform, launched RAY, an artificial‑intelligence‑driven account manager accessible via WhatsApp, on 3 September 2026. The service is offered in partnership with IndusInd Bank and is already live for early adopters such as Bajaj Finance.
Early Adoption and Usage Volume
Bajaj Finance is among the first businesses to operate on the platform, and the AI assistant has already handled more than 20,000 conversations with merchants, indicating rapid uptake among small and medium enterprises.
Functional Capabilities
RAY allows founders to request information and actions using natural language. Example queries include:
- “Show me a summary of my payments from yesterday.”
- “Analyse my payments from the last two months and project my sales for the next two months.”
RAY responds in plain language and can execute transactions such as issuing refunds or generating payment links directly within the WhatsApp chat, eliminating the need to log into a dashboard.
Proactive Assistance and Alerts
Beyond answering queries, RAY continuously monitors a business’s payment health. It can proactively send recommendations like “Here’s how you can improve your payment success rate,” and flag upcoming settlements, for instance: “Your Rs 94,600 settles Wednesday. Tuesday is a bank holiday. Would you like to get it settled today?” This enables merchants to address issues before they arise.
Underlying Technology
RAY is built on Razorpay’s AI Agent Platform, a single intelligent agent that consolidates capabilities across payments, settlements, refunds, and other functions. The platform retains a 360‑degree context for each merchant and employs a real‑time evaluation system to validate responses, minimizing hallucinations while maintaining low latency.
Executive Remarks
- Khilan Haria, Chief Product Officer, Razorpay, said the company aims to fundamentally change how businesses interact with payments infrastructure, offering a natural‑language interface that can act without explicit prompts.
- Amitabh Saraff, Head – Institutional and Government Coverage, IndusInd Bank, highlighted the partnership’s goal of making banking simpler, faster, and more accessible through a familiar platform.
- Tanaji Khot, Senior Head Banking, Bajaj Finance, emphasized the convenience of resolving issues via a simple WhatsApp message rather than navigating multiple dashboards.
Company Background
Razorpay was founded in 2014 by IIT Roorkee alumni Shashank Kumar and Harshil Mathur. The company has attracted several angel investors and focuses on providing technology‑driven payment and banking solutions to Indian businesses.
