Razorpay Enables Apple Pay for Online and In‑Store Payments in India

Razorpay, the Indian omnichannel payments platform, announced that Apple Pay is now live on its network for both online and physical‑store transactions. The service is available to thousands of Indian merchants, with early adopters such as Zepto, Ixigo, Indigo, Tata 1mg and JioMart explicitly named.

Shoppers can select Apple Pay at checkout and authenticate the payment using Face ID, Touch ID, or a device passcode. No card number entry or SMS‑based OTP is required. Apple Pay employs tokenised card credentials, meaning the actual card number is never shared with the merchant, adding a layer of fraud protection and helping to reduce chargeback risk.

The rollout aligns with the Reserve Bank of India’s new authentication framework introduced in September 2025 and effective from April 2026, which permits payment players to move beyond SMS OTPs. This regulatory change enables faster, secure checkouts without compromising security.

Razorpay’s COO, Rahul Kothari, stated that merchants can activate Apple Pay on the Razorpay Standard Checkout without developing a separate checkout flow, subject to enablement requirements. The platform securely routes transactions through Apple Pay, card networks and issuing banks, and processes the domestic payment once authorised by the shopper.

The launch extends Razorpay’s existing support for Apple Pay international transactions to domestic Indian payments, reinforcing its role as a single‑infrastructure provider of modern payment experiences.
