Reliance Industries Limited submitted a regulatory filing to BSE Limited and National Stock Exchange of India Limited containing a media release from its 100% step-down subsidiary, Karkinos Healthcare Private Limited.
The disclosure announces that Karkinos Healthcare has completed HPV DNA screening for over 100,000 women across India, marking a significant milestone in cervical cancer prevention efforts. The achievement was reached through multiple implementation models including public-health programmes, public-private partnerships, CSR-supported initiatives, nurse-assisted and self-sampling programmes, district-level screening efforts, and focused outreach for underserved and high-risk communities.
Karkinos Healthcare's model addresses cervical cancer prevention challenges through World Health Organization-recommended HPV DNA testing and a digitally enabled continuum of care that integrates awareness, screening, tracking, triage, navigation, and follow-up. This approach aims to prevent loss to follow-up after positive results.
Three company representatives commented on the milestone:
- Dr Neerja Bhatla, Consultant, Early Detection and Women Wellness, emphasized the importance of ensuring women who test positive are carried through to diagnosis and treatment
- Dr Goura Kishore Rath, Senior Oncology Advisor, highlighted the significance of bringing high-quality testing to districts and small towns
- Ms Sripriya Rao, Chief Growth Officer – Women Wellness, and Head of Distributed Cancer Care Network, dedicated the milestone to the late Dr R. Sankaranarayanan and acknowledged guidance from Dr Partha Basu of the International Agency for Research on Cancer
The media release notes that cervical cancer remains one of the most preventable cancers, with timely screening, early detection, and appropriate follow-up care being able to avoid most cervical cancer deaths. The infrastructure developed through this program is positioned to support wider adoption of organized cervical cancer screening in India.
