Foundation Stone Laying for RGIPT Bengaluru Campus

On June 19, 2026, the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), an Institution of National Importance, conducted a foundation stone laying ceremony at its Bengaluru campus. The ceremony, presided over by Prof. Harish Hirani, Director of RGIPT, marked the commencement of four major infrastructure projects: an Academic Block Extension, a new Auditorium, a Guest House, and a Student Mess Facility. The total projected outlay for these projects is approximately ₹60 crore.

The Academic Block Extension is intended to accommodate the expansion of academic programmes and research activities. The Auditorium will serve as a modern venue for conferences, seminars, workshops, industry interactions and cultural events. The Guest House will provide quality accommodation for visiting faculty, researchers, industry experts and dignitaries, while the Student Mess Facility will enhance residential life and student welfare.

Prof. Hirani emphasized that the infrastructure is not merely physical but forms the foundation for RGIPT’s contribution to India’s future in engineering, energy, technology, innovation and sustainable development. He outlined the institute’s strategic vision to design academic programmes around emerging disciplines such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Robotics, Cybersecurity, Sustainable Energy and Digital Engineering. The institute aims to deliver interactive, laboratory‑based education, multidisciplinary projects, industrial exposure and continuous assessment to produce industry‑ready graduates.

Research and innovation will remain central to the campus mission. RGIPT plans collaborative research with industries, startups, government organisations, public sector enterprises, research laboratories and international universities in areas including energy transition, renewable energy, hydrogen technologies, digital engineering, AI, robotics, advanced manufacturing and sustainable industrial systems. The Bengaluru location is expected to leverage the city’s ecosystem of global technology firms, startups, research labs, public sector enterprises and premier academic institutions to foster partnerships in education, research, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Prof. Hirani invited industry partners, research organisations, academic institutions, government agencies and startups to collaborate with RGIPT on developing future‑ready professionals, undertaking industry‑driven research, establishing Centres of Excellence, supporting innovation and jointly addressing challenges in energy transition, sustainability, digital transformation and advanced manufacturing.

He reassured parents and prospective students of a safe, inclusive and intellectually stimulating campus environment that promotes academic excellence, leadership, creativity and entrepreneurial capabilities. Looking ahead, Hirani envisions the Bengaluru campus emerging as a leading centre for advanced engineering education, interdisciplinary research, innovation and technology development, contributing significantly to Karnataka’s higher‑education and innovation ecosystem and supporting national priorities in energy transition, digital transformation, sustainability and technology‑led economic growth.
