On 26 October 2026, Prof. Harish Hirani, Director of the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), Bengaluru campus, inaugurated a modern gymnasium spanning approximately 3,000 square feet. The gym is fitted with contemporary fitness equipment designed for strength training, endurance and overall physical fitness, and is intended for use by students and campus residents.

In the same ceremony, indoor table‑tennis facilities comprising four tables were opened, providing space for recreational and competitive play. The institute also introduced dedicated morning and evening running time slots exclusively for female students to promote greater participation in fitness activities.

Additionally, foundation stones were laid for two indoor wooden badminton courts, which will enable year‑round indoor badminton irrespective of weather conditions. The campus development plan also includes a natural pond project with an envisaged storage capacity of about 7 million litres. The pond will be surrounded by a pathway and equipped with solar‑powered lighting, aiming to strengthen water‑conservation infrastructure and enhance the ecological character of the campus.

Prof. Hirani emphasized that physical fitness, sports, recreation and environmental responsibility are integral to the institute’s holistic educational environment, and that these infrastructure additions support the vision of a modern, student‑centric and sustainable campus.
