RGIPT Bengaluru Campus Development Update

On 26 October 2026, the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) at its Bengaluru campus inaugurated a modern gymnasium covering approximately 3,000 square feet. The gym is equipped with contemporary fitness equipment designed for strength training, endurance work and overall physical conditioning. In addition, the institute opened an indoor table‑tennis facility that houses four table‑tennis tables, providing students with both recreational and competitive playing opportunities.

Director Prof. Harish Hirani presided over the inauguration and also laid foundation stones for two forthcoming indoor wooden badminton courts. These courts will enable year‑round badminton activities irrespective of weather conditions, further expanding the campus’s indoor sports infrastructure.

A parallel foundation‑laying ceremony marked the start of a natural pond project with an envisaged storage capacity of roughly 7 million litres. The pond will be surrounded by a pathway and illuminated with solar‑powered lighting, reinforcing the institute’s commitment to water‑conservation, energy efficiency and an enhanced ecological campus environment.

The gymnasium introduces dedicated morning and evening running time slots exclusively for female students, an initiative aimed at encouraging greater participation of women in physical‑fitness activities and supporting their health and well‑being.

Prof. Hirani emphasized that the institute’s development agenda extends beyond academic facilities to include physical fitness, sports, recreation and environmental responsibility, all of which are integral to nurturing a vibrant, student‑centric academic community.

These initiatives collectively represent a significant investment in campus infrastructure, student engagement and sustainable development, aligning with RGIPT’s broader vision of a modern, holistic learning environment.
