Key Appointments and Effective Dates

The Ministry of Steel (MOS) appointed two Government Nominee Directors to SAIL's Board through its order dated 12 October 2026, with immediate effect until further orders. The appointments are:

  • Ms. Sarita Chauhan - Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor, Ministry of Steel
  • Shri Vinod Kumar Tripathi - Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel

Director Profiles

Ms. Sarita Chauhan

  • Indian Administrative Service officer from the 1999 batch, AGMUT Cadre
  • Holds a Bachelor's degree in Textile Engineering
  • Brings over 27 years of extensive experience spanning both State and Central Government roles
  • Currently serving as Additional Secretary & Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Steel, Government of India
  • Previously handled portfolios covering personnel administration, administrative reforms, e-governance, education, environment, labour, social welfare, law and justice, tourism, industries, agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry, power, urban development and district administration
  • Served as District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Jammu & Kashmir, leading district administration in land revenue management and development programmes
  • Served as Secretary of various departments for over 10 years in Jammu & Kashmir, with experience in policy, planning and institution building
  • Worked as Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, focusing on digitalization of governance through e-governance reforms
  • Currently also serving as Government Director on the Board of NMDC Steel Limited

Shri Vinod Kumar Tripathi

  • Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE-1995)
  • Civil Engineering graduate from IIT Roorkee
  • Completed Advanced Management courses from NAIR Baroda, INSEAD Singapore, and Leadership and Governance Centre (Iclif) Kuala Lumpur
  • Received training in Strategic Management from ISB Hyderabad
  • Has versatile experience in Administration, Management and Engineering
  • Expertise includes management of Public Sector Enterprises, Public Policy, Projects, Operations, Technological Advancement, Procurement & Inventory Management, and Human Resource Management
