SGAL, described as the youngest subsidiary of SCNL, announced the achievement of the first close of its women-led Category II Alternative Investment Fund (AIF). This milestone was reached within four and a half months of receiving SEBI registration for the fund.
The fund has received commitments from a diversified group of investors including high-net-worth individuals (specifically mentioned: Partner at Dua Associates, CEO of a leading MFI) and institutional investors (specifically named: Blueboard, Paisalo, Nupur Recyclers Limited, Tomorrow's India, and SCNL itself).
Investment Strategy and Focus
The fund will focus on India's "Missing Middle" by providing structured, quasi-debt and equity-linked capital to growth-stage businesses. The investment thesis aims to generate attractive risk-adjusted returns through credit-led downside protection while participating in the equity upside of high-growth businesses.
The fund emphasizes women-led ventures, sustainability, and inclusive development, seeking to close the financing gap beyond conventional debt or equity. SGAL will leverage SCNL's distribution reach for physical verification and topline push of investee companies. The strategy is built on disciplined underwriting and prudent structuring for long-term value creation.
Management Commentary
