Overview

SATO, a global auto‑identification and data‑collection solutions provider, has enabled the deployment of a state‑of‑the‑art Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)‑based Next‑Generation Blood Supply Management System (NBSM) for Singapore's Health Sciences Authority (HSA) Blood Services Group. The system is now live across all public and private hospital blood‑bank laboratories, allowing online blood ordering and automatic tracking of every blood component, thereby giving HSA enhanced real‑time visibility of the nation’s blood inventory.

Objectives

The RFID‑enabled NBSM aims to improve productivity throughout the blood‑supply chain from HSA to hospitals, increase visibility of national blood stock levels for effective management in both routine and emergency situations, boost blood and patient safety through precise tracking and quarantine of components, and streamline HSA’s workflows to simplify component ordering for hospitals, enhancing overall operational efficiency.

Project Execution

The NBSM project was awarded to CADI Scientific following an open tender issued by HSA. SATO acted as the technology partner, supplying its PJM RFID labels and readers, which are known for rapid read rates and high readability when tracking fluids such as blood products. The RFID solution conforms to the ISO 18000‑3 Mode 2 international standard, forming the technical foundation of CADI’s NBSM.
