Sberbank Acquires Two Delhi Centers, Enhances Payments
During the Eastern Economic Forum 2026, Alexander Vedyakhin, First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Sberbank, announced that Sberbank has acquired two Summit Towers business centres located in New Delhi, India. The two large towers, situated next to the World Trade Center, are slated for completion by 2028 and are intended to create a new infrastructural foundation for Russian‑Indian cooperation, with an invitation extended to Russian companies to become partners.
Vedyakhin highlighted that the acquisition is part of Sberbank’s broader strategy of expanding its real‑estate footprint and overall presence in India. He also reaffirmed the bank’s plan to actively develop payment instruments and implement artificial‑intelligence solutions in the Indian market in 2027, positioning Sberbank as the primary provider of bilateral payments between Russia and India.
Regarding payment performance, Vedyakhin disclosed that over 90% of payments from Russia to India are now processed in less than ten minutes, a substantial improvement from the previous year when only 60% met that threshold. Moreover, more than one‑third of these cross‑border transactions are settled within sixty seconds, enabling near‑instantaneous fund transfers during real‑time conversations between Russian and Indian counterparties.
The press release notes that these developments constitute a strong bridge for the development of Russia‑India relations, emphasizing speed, efficiency, and low commission structures for the processed payments.
