Overview

Spray Engineering Devices Limited (SED) announced that its in‑house Mechanical Vapour Recompression (MVR) technology has now accumulated five years of combined operation at Wave Industries Pvt. Ltd.’s Sugar Division in Dhanaura, India. The performance of the first installation prompted Wave Industries to place a repeat order, resulting in a second MVR system at the same plant.

First Installation (Two‑Year Performance)

The initial MVR‑based concentrator was commissioned and has operated successfully for two years. During this period, steam consumption fell from approximately 34% of the plant’s total to about 32%, delivering an estimated 2% reduction in steam usage.

Second Installation (Three‑Year Performance)

Following the success of the first unit, a second MVR juice concentrator was installed. Over three years of operation, this system maintained steam consumption in the range of 32% down to 29.5%, achieving roughly 2.5% steam savings.

Technology Description

SED’s MVR technology recovers vapour generated during evaporation and mechanically recompresses it for reuse as the heating medium, thereby reducing dependence on fresh steam. In the second application, SED integrated the MVR system with plate‑type falling‑film evaporation technology and advanced process controls tailored to the plant’s juice concentration requirements.

Significance

The combined five‑year operating record across two separate installations provides a sustained reference for MVR technology in sugar processing. The repeat adoption at the same site demonstrates that the technology can consistently meet targeted steam‑economy objectives, delivering 2% to 2.5% steam savings per installation while operating at steam consumption levels between 34% and 29.5%.
