Overview
On 19 October 2026, The Sandur Manganese & Iron Ores Limited (SMIORE), the flagship of the Royal Sandur Group, executed a lease deed with Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone Limited, the government‑owned operator of the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) in Visakhapatnam. The lease grants Royal Sandur MedTech Private Limited, a wholly‑owned SMIORE subsidiary, a 33‑year tenancy over 6.2 acres (approximately 25,090 m²) of developed land that includes road, power, water and effluent infrastructure provided by AMTZ. The agreement also confers an exclusive right to convert the leasehold into freehold ownership after ten years from the date the business is commissioned. In addition to the land, Royal Sandur MedTech has secured office space at the World Trade Center AMTZ to support project development.
The move represents SMIORE’s first concrete step in diversifying into the Medical Devices and Consumables sector, complementing its existing mining, ferro‑alloys, coke and energy businesses and its specialty‑steel subsidiary Royal Sandur Metals Private Limited. Capital‑expenditure plans and detailed project timelines will be disclosed later.
Commenting on the development, Bahirji A. Ghorpade, Managing Director of SMIORE, said the diversification strategy aims to build new engines of growth alongside the core mining and metals operations, noting the considerable domestic manufacturing opportunities in the medical‑devices space and the capital‑efficient platform offered by AMTZ. Dr. Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director & Founder‑CEO of AMTZ, welcomed Royal Sandur MedTech to the ecosystem, stating that the investment reflects growing confidence in India’s medical‑technology manufacturing capabilities and reinforces AMTZ’s role as a catalyst for innovation and global competitiveness.
