The Technology Development Board (TDB), under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, has extended financial assistance to M/s Sonic Biochem Extractions Pvt. Ltd., Indore for the project "Development & Commercialization of Functional and Textured Soya Protein Concentrate(s)." The project aims to establish a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility for commercial production of Functional Soya Protein Concentrate (FSPC) and Textured Soya Protein Concentrate (TSPC) using indigenous technology developed by the company.
Sonic Biochem has over two decades of experience in manufacturing and exporting non-GMO soya food ingredients and has developed an indigenous process that uses Soya Protein Concentrate (SPC) as the primary raw material instead of the more expensive, largely imported Soya Protein Isolate (SPI) from countries such as China and the United States. This innovation significantly reduces production costs while delivering comparable functional properties.
The initiative addresses growing global demand for high-quality, non-GMO plant-based protein ingredients driven by consumer preference for healthy, sustainable, and clean-label food products. The technology is expected to reduce import dependence, generate new export opportunities, and strengthen India's position in the rapidly expanding global market for value-added plant proteins. The project will create extensive applications across processed foods, plant-based meat alternatives, nutritional supplements, and functional food products.
Shri Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, TDB, stated that developing indigenous manufacturing capabilities for advanced plant protein ingredients is strategically important for strengthening India's food processing sector and expanding global market presence. The initiative is expected to generate significant foreign exchange savings while creating new export opportunities under the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
