Product Overview

Sony India unveiled the FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS, a new addition to its flagship G Master series for full‑frame Alpha E‑mount cameras. The lens is positioned for professional wildlife, birding, sports, and photojournalism creators, offering a constant f/4.5 aperture across a 100‑400 mm focal range.

Technical Specifications

The optical construction incorporates a newly developed ED XA (Extra‑low Dispersion extreme aspherical) element, an XA element, two Super ED elements, and three ED glass elements, all coated with Sony’s Nano AR Coating II to suppress ghosting and flare. An 11‑blade circular aperture provides smooth bokeh, while the internal zoom mechanism maintains a stable centre of gravity, enabling handheld operation. The lens weighs approximately 1,840 g (65 oz) and features four custom‑optimized XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors, a floating focus mechanism, and Sony’s latest autofocus algorithms that deliver autofocus speeds up to three times faster and roughly 50 % improved subject‑tracking performance versus the previous generation. It supports optional tele‑converters extending the focal length to 800 mm, or up to 1,200 mm in APS‑C mode, and is fully compatible with the Alpha 9 III’s high‑speed continuous shooting of up to 120 fps with AF/AE tracking. Additional features include built‑in optical image stabilization (Active Mode), breathing compensation, four customizable focus‑hold buttons, a dedicated function ring, dust‑ and moisture‑resistant construction, and a fluorine‑coated front element.

Sustainability Initiatives
