Sony India Private Limited announced the launch of OCELLUS (model ASR‑CT1), its first advanced camera‑tracking system aimed at augmenting AR and virtual‑production workflows for broadcast, cinema and live‑event productions.

System Architecture and Capabilities

OCELLUS provides marker‑free tracking through a compact sensor unit that houses five image sensors and employs Sony’s Visual SLAM technology to build a reference map for stable indoor and outdoor operation. The system can operate with Sony Cinema Line cameras, other Sony system cameras, or non‑Sony cameras. When paired with Sony cameras, focus, iris and zoom metadata are extracted from the camera’s SDI output and streamed in real time over Ethernet; for lenses lacking SDI metadata, dedicated lens encoders capture the same information. The processing box receives position, orientation, timecode, file‑name and full camera/lens metadata, and can record the data as FBX files on UHS‑II/UHS‑I SDXC cards synchronized with the primary video stream.

Key Hardware Features

  • Sensor unit: Measures 86 × 60 × 43 mm, weighs approximately 250 g, and mounts on a NATO rail. Four of the five sensors are sufficient for stable tracking, and the system continues to capture data if at least one sensor detects valid feature points. Infra‑red LEDs on each sensor improve low‑light performance, while a Visible Light Cut Unit maintains consistency under changing illumination. Power and data are delivered via a single USB‑Type‑C cable with a locking mechanism.
  • Processing box: Offers Ethernet connectivity to CG rendering software such as Unreal Engine using the free‑d format, and includes Genlock, timecode, SDI I/O and dedicated lens‑encoder ports. An OLED display shows IP address, tracking status and lens parameters. Recorded tracking and metadata are saved as FBX files on SDXC cards.
  • Lens encoder: Captures rotation and lens parameters (focus, zoom, iris) via a LEMO 7‑pin cable, enabling metadata acquisition for lenses that do not embed data via SDI. Five interchangeable gear types allow compatibility with a wide range of lenses.

Pricing and Availability

The OCELLUS ASR‑CT1 is priced at INR 32,37,990 (MRP) and will be available for purchase from 5 May 2026 through Sony Center stores, Alpha Flagship outlets and major electronic retailers across India.
