SpaceX will lease compute capacity from its Colossus 1 data centre to AI startup Anthropic for an initial 180‑day period, with a 90‑day mutual cancellation notice.
Anthropic will receive more than 300 MW of compute power and will pay $1.25 billion per month until May 2029, amounting to roughly $45 billion in total revenue over three years.
The agreement has been expanded to include future compute from the upcoming Colossus 2 centre; Anthropic will pay a reduced amount for May and June 2026.
Elon Musk indicated the short‑term lease was requested to preserve internal compute capacity and that SpaceX may need the resources back if demand tightens.
Musk also mentioned ongoing discussions with other companies to monetize additional compute capacity.
The deal is positioned to boost SpaceX’s AI‑linked revenues ahead of its planned June IPO, which aims to raise $75 billion at a valuation of $1.75‑2 trillion.
xAI, SpaceX’s AI arm merged last year, recorded a $6.36 billion loss in 2025, underscoring the strategic importance of external compute leasing.
