Event Overview
SPR City, the flagship integrated township of SPR India located in Perambur, Chennai, inaugurated a 47.8‑foot‑tall Golu installation as the centerpiece of its ten‑day Navaratri Utsavam 2026, scheduled from 11 October to 20 October 2026. The Golu showcases more than 4,500 traditional dolls representing diverse facets of Indian culture and is open to visitors throughout the celebration period.
Record Attempt Details
The 47.8‑foot height is deliberately chosen to echo SPR City’s 47‑floor residential tower, which is recognised as Chennai’s tallest residential tower. The installation is being submitted to the World Book of Records, London, for verification as the world’s tallest Golu based solely on height. The previous documented record was a 36.4‑foot Golu created in Chennai in 2012 and recorded by the India Book of Records. Official recognition of the new record will be contingent upon verification by the record‑keeping authority.
SPR City Township Profile
SPR City spans 63 acres and integrates residential, commercial, and educational facilities. It accommodates over 1,000 families and includes the 47‑floor residential tower, the tallest of its kind in Chennai. The township is strategically positioned approximately 500 metres from Perambur Bus Terminus, 1 km from Perambur Railway Station, and 800 metres from the proposed Perambur Metro station, with easy access to Chennai Central Railway Station, the High Court, and the Secretariat. Commercial spaces within the township are designed to serve businesses, traders, and investors.
Market of India Development
Within SPR City, the flagship commercial project “Market of India” (MOI) is envisioned as a landmark destination for organized retail trade. The master plan outlines more than 5,000 shops and an estimated built‑up area of approximately 54 lakh sq ft. A central indoor plaza covering 1.5 acres will provide an air‑conditioned environment, aiming to set a new benchmark for organized trade infrastructure and to position Chennai as a major hub for regional and national retailers.

The Golu inauguration was attended by Mr. Hitesh Kawad, Managing Director of SPR Group; Mr. Navin Ranka, Director of SPR India; Mr. Prakash Mohanasundaram, Vice President – Revenue; and Mr. Balakumar Chandrasekaran, Senior Vice President – Sales & Marketing.
