InsureChain Platform Launch
Spydra, in partnership with Bajaj Finance Limited (BFL), has introduced InsureChain, a blockchain‑based insurance platform built on Hyperledger Fabric using Spydra’s low‑code blockchain technology. The initiative is designed to replace fragmented legacy systems, manual processes, and delayed reconciliations with a real‑time digital framework that streamlines insurance management across India.
Operational Context
In the Indian insurance ecosystem—particularly within lending journeys—multiple participants such as lenders, insurers and service teams traditionally operate on separate systems, leading to mismatched data, processing delays and heavy reliance on manual reconciliation. For BFL, a leading NBFC and insurance distributor, these challenges have hampered operational efficiency and customer experience.
Platform Architecture and Features
InsureChain creates a shared, real‑time system of record where all stakeholders access a single, verified blockchain network, ensuring instant, trusted data visibility. At its core is a tokenized approach that records loans, insurance policies and EMI payments as digital assets on the blockchain, enabling seamless tracking of a policy’s entire lifecycle—from issuance through updates to claims—without batch uploads or manual cycles.
Automated Claims Processing
When a loan default occurs, smart contracts automatically detect the event, retrieve required proof from verified records and trigger the insurance claim directly with the insurer. This automation reduces delays, minimizes human error and accelerates claim settlement.
Real‑Time Updates and Audit Trail
Every policy change, payment or cancellation is reflected instantly for all authorized participants. The platform also generates a secure, tamper‑proof audit trail, simplifying regulatory reporting and compliance.
Privacy and Regulatory Alignment
Built with a privacy‑first design, InsureChain shares sensitive customer data only with approved participants, aligning with India’s Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act 2023 while facilitating cross‑institution collaboration.
Integration Capability
The solution is engineered to integrate with existing insurer systems, allowing adoption without replacing current infrastructure. It is already live with a major life insurance provider and is being rolled out to additional partners.
Future Roadmap
Spydra and BFL plan to enhance InsureChain by integrating it with DigiLocker and IndiaStack, and by exploring AI‑driven insights for risk assessment and claims processing. The platform is expected to expand across life, health and general insurance categories, further promoting transparency, efficiency and connectivity in the insurance value chain.
