Strategic Update: Lakshya Growth Plan

Management announced a new growth ambition named 'Lakshya' for FY29. The key financial targets are:

  • Revenue target of ₹20,000 crore by FY29, representing a more than 4x growth from the FY26 revenue of ₹4,750 crore.
  • EBITDA margin target of 27%+ by FY29, an improvement of more than 1380 basis points from the FY26 EBITDA margin of 13.2%.

Rationale and Growth Drivers

The strategy is based on a fundamental shift in the optical connectivity market, moving from connecting people (traditional telecom) to connecting intelligence (AI data centers). This is creating a larger, more diversified, and less cyclical opportunity.

The four key drivers behind the growth ambition are:

1. Expanding Optical TAM: The total addressable market is expanding as optical content increases dramatically inside AI data centers. Fiber content per rack is cited as increasing from 1,000 fibers (legacy) to 64,000 fibers with the latest VERA Rubin infrastructure, a 64x increase.

2. Customer Co-development: STL is moving from being a component supplier to a partner engaged earlier in the design cycle for connectivity architecture, particularly in the evolving AI infrastructure space.

3. Integrated Connectivity Solutions: The strategy is to provide an integrated connectivity stack (fiber, cable, assemblies, connectors) as a solution to simplify deployment for customers.

4. Technology-led Differentiation: STL is investing in next-generation technologies, including hollow-core fiber, multi-core fiber, 13,000 fiber count cable capability, and in-house development of co-packaged optics and near-packaged optics.

Financial Performance and Visibility

  • Q1 FY27 was reported as the company's "highest ever quarterly revenue [and] EBITDA."
  • The company has an open order book of more than $2 billion, which provides strong visibility into future revenue.
  • Management highlighted a strengthening balance sheet that provides the capacity to invest in the growth plan.

Capital Allocation and Expansion Plans

  • Over the next three financial years (FY27-FY29), STL plans to invest approximately ₹1,000 crores annually in capital expenditure.
  • This investment will expand the company's preform, fiber, and cable capacities by 50%.
  • A new Greenfield Optical Connectivity Facility will be established in India to address demand from data centers and AI infrastructure.
  • The company commits approximately 2% of its average annual revenue to innovation and R&D.

Market Opportunity: India Data Centers

Management highlighted a significant opportunity in the Indian data center market. India's current data center capacity is approximately 1.5GW, which is expected to grow to 10GW by 2030, implying a 46% CAGR. This growth is supported by policy (including a tax holiday to 2047) and power availability. STL believes its local manufacturing footprint and existing relationships with global hyperscalers investing in India position it well to capture this growth.

Corporate Background

STL emphasized its end-to-end vertical integration across the optical value chain, manufacturing its own glass, fiber, cable, and connectivity solutions. The company holds over 785 patents and operates more than 10 advanced manufacturing facilities globally. STL has an approximate 9% share of the global optical fiber market outside of China.
