Appointment Announcement
SUJÁN, India's leading conservation‑led luxury hospitality company, issued a press release on Thursday, 1 October 2026 (12:50 IST) announcing that Thomas F. Maechler will assume the role of Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer effective 1 October 2026. Maechler, a Swiss hospitality executive, brings more than 25 years of international leadership experience, having headed the Beau‑Rivage Hotel in Neuchâtel and La Réserve Eden au Lac in Zurich, and serving on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of Relais & Châteaux, as Vice‑President of Swiss Deluxe Hotels and on the board of Les Grandes Tables de Suisse.
The appointment coincides with SUJÁN’s 25th anniversary. The company currently operates three camps—SUJÁN Sher Bagh, SUJÁN The Serai and SUJÁN Jawai—all members of Relais & Châteaux and recipients of Michelin ‘keys’ (Sher Bagh and Jawai each hold two keys, The Serai holds one). In 2024, SUJÁN Jawai became the first Indian hotel to be listed in the World’s 50 Best Hotels.
Founders Anjali and Jaisal Singh said the appointment reflects SUJÁN’s commitment to expanding its global footprint while staying true to its conservation, community development and sustainable luxury values. The growth strategy includes expanding the African footprint after acquiring two camps in Zambia, evaluating additional opportunities worldwide, and aiming to double the portfolio over the next four years.
SUJÁN remains independent and family‑owned, with a legacy of wildlife conservation dating back to the late 1980s when Jaisal Singh established the first camp, SUJÁN Sher Bagh, on re‑wilded land in Ranthambhore.
