Tencent Tests TenPayGo App for Foreign Visitors

Tencent Holdings (HK:0700) is conducting limited internal testing of a new mobile application named TenPayGo, aimed at simplifying payments and everyday services for overseas visitors in China. The Bloomberg report, citing Jiemian News, describes TenPayGo as a one‑stop digital services platform that merges mobile payments with travel‑related functionalities. According to its App Store description, the app supports travel, dining, and shopping, allowing foreign users to settle transactions electronically without relying on cash.

TenPayGo leverages Tencent’s Weixin Pay network, enabling users to pay at tens of millions of merchants across China that accept Weixin Pay. The service is currently in a restricted testing phase and has not been released to the public.

The trial aligns with China’s broader effort to revive international travel following the introduction of visa‑free entry policies and other facilitation measures. The National Immigration Administration reported nearly 7 billion cross‑border trips in 2025, with foreign nationals accounting for over 82 million entries and exits—a 26.4% increase from the prior year. Chinese authorities have introduced a series of travel‑facilitation initiatives over the past year to boost tourism, business travel, and international exchanges.

Improving access to digital payment services is highlighted as a priority, given that many foreign visitors have encountered difficulties navigating China’s predominantly cashless payment ecosystem. Tencent’s Weixin Pay, alongside Alipay, is one of the country’s largest mobile payment platforms, and TenPayGo is expected to make digital payments more accessible to international travelers without the need to navigate domestic payment systems.
