Workflow Steps

The lifecycle comprises seven distinct stages, each invoked via a separate CLI command:

  • Capture: kane-cli context ingest snapshots requirement documents such as PRDs, specifications, or policy pages into a local, content‑addressed store.
  • Extract: An AI agent reads the ingested sources and proposes use‑cases, citing the exact lines read.
  • Review: Teams promote, edit, or reject proposals; all proposals start as derived and none are silently trusted.
  • Design: kane-cli design tests converts each approved use‑case into acceptance criteria, scenarios, and runnable tests, enforcing exactly one test per scenario and tagging each test with the criteria it validates. The design output undergoes the same review process.
  • Execute: Tests are run using kane-cli testmd run and kane-cli testrun run; each execution seals an evidence pack.
  • Measure: kane-cli cover reports two axes – what a run proved and what design still owes – and records any missing coverage as a ranked gap rather than silence.
  • Maintain: kane-cli maintain reconciles the suite when a source document changes, marking all artifacts extracted from the prior snapshot as stale until they are re‑verified.

Each stage can be paused, reviewed, and resumed independently, ensuring no downstream activity proceeds without upstream commitment. All data – sources, use‑cases, designs, and review verdicts – reside in the project directory in an append‑only, replayable history, remaining on the developer’s disk rather than on a server. The entire lifecycle can run headlessly in CI pipelines or be driven by an AI agent, allowing an agent to build a feature, design corresponding tests, and report coverage within a single workflow.

Availability and Pricing

The Assurance Lifecycle is available immediately in Kane CLI version 0.6.1 and later. Existing users can upgrade via npm or Homebrew. The extract, design, and maintain‑reconcile steps execute on the KaneAI agent and consume credits, while review, coverage reporting, and store operations are performed locally at no cost.
