Meeting Overview

On 22 October 2026, Mr. Abhilesh Gupta, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of THINK Gas, met with Mr. Mohan Yadav, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, in Bhopal to discuss a possible reduction in Value Added Tax (VAT) on natural gas within the state.

Rationale and Expected Benefits

THINK Gas argued that lowering VAT would make piped natural gas (PNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) more affordable for residential consumers, enhance state revenue through higher consumption, promote cleaner mobility, and support the national objective of accelerating the LPG‑to‑PNG conversion drive championed by the Prime Minister. The company highlighted that several neighbouring states that have already reduced VAT on natural gas have experienced higher fuel penetration, industrial growth, and cleaner mobility, outcomes Madhya Pradesh seeks to replicate.

Strategic Importance for Madhya Pradesh

The state’s central location and expanding industrial and economic activity position it to become a leading natural‑gas‑driven economy. Rationalising VAT is expected to improve the competitiveness of PNG and CNG, thereby accelerating adoption across households, industries, commercial establishments, and the transport sector.

THINK Gas Infrastructure Investments

THINK Gas outlined its ongoing investments in Madhya Pradesh, which include the development of DPNG (door‑to‑door PNG) connections, expansion of PNG distribution networks, and the establishment of new CNG stations to improve energy accessibility in urban, industrial, and rural areas. The company described itself as a key contributor to the state’s City Gas Distribution (CGD) infrastructure.

Anticipated Impact

A competitive tax regime is projected to unlock significant value for lakhs of domestic households using PNG and CNG, lower energy costs, bolster industrial competitiveness, encourage further investment, and accelerate the state’s transition to a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
