Historical Milestones

The group’s origins trace back to 1997 with the establishment of Gulf Medical College, the UAE’s first private medical college. This institution later evolved into Gulf Medical University, now recognised as the No. 1 private medical university in the Gulf and attracting students from more than 111 nationalities. It is also the only private medical university in the Middle East founded by a non‑resident Indian (NRI).

Scale of Operations

Thumbay Group’s integrated academic‑healthcare ecosystem now includes teaching hospitals, specialty clinics, diagnostic laboratories, pharmacies and research institutions. To date, the group has treated over 19 million patients representing 175 nationalities.

Gulf Medical University allocates AED 10 million each year to research grants, underscoring the group’s commitment to medical innovation.
