Overview

thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology inaugurated its new Global Capability Center (GCC) in Pune, Maharashtra, on 9 October 2026. The centre is part of the company’s ongoing expansion of its global research‑and‑development network.

Current Operations

More than 120 engineers are presently employed at the Pune site, working across software, hardware, systems and mechanical development for international customer programmes. The centre’s work concentrates on embedded systems, functional safety, cybersecurity and advanced chassis technologies, supporting next‑generation steering and chassis systems.

Expansion Plans

thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology intends to increase the Pune workforce to over 300 employees in the coming years. Recruitment will initially target software, hardware and mechanical engineering roles, with additional specialised competencies to be added as business and technology requirements evolve. The company also plans to establish a sales team in Pune to serve Indian automotive manufacturers and, subject to securing appropriate customer projects, to set up local production capabilities in India.

Location and Rationale

The GCC is situated in the Solitaire Business Hub 2, Baner‑Balewadi business district, Pune. Pune was chosen because of its established automotive industry, strong engineering and software ecosystem, leading universities and a broad pool of highly qualified talent.

Leadership Comments

Viktor Molnar, COO of thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology, said the centre strengthens the company’s capabilities in software‑defined mobility and creates additional development capacity for customers worldwide. Dr Björn Erbe, Senior Vice President R&D for the chassis business, described Pune as a key engineering hub fully integrated into the global R&D network and highlighted opportunities for collaboration with local universities and the wider engineering ecosystem.
