Key Development
Terra Rubber Private Limited, a 100% wholly owned subsidiary of Tolins Tyres Limited, has commenced construction of a new Reclaim Rubber manufacturing facility in Palakkad, Kerala. The groundbreaking occurred on August 24, 2026.
Facility Details and Process
The facility will utilize scrap tyres and other rubber waste, including rubber compound waste, as key raw materials. Through a controlled devulcanisation process, the facility will recover usable rubber and convert it into Reclaimed Rubber. This reclaimed material can be incorporated into suitable rubber compounds as a substitute for a portion of virgin rubber, depending on product specifications and performance requirements.
Strategic Rationale
The project represents an important milestone in the Tolins Group's strategy to:
- Strengthen presence across the rubber value chain
- Advance backward integration
- Improve raw-material efficiency
- Promote circular manufacturing
- Develop an additional raw-material stream
- Optimize raw-material mix
- Reduce reliance on virgin resources
EPR Revenue Opportunity
The facility provides Terra Rubber with an opportunity to participate in India's Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework for waste tyres. Subject to applicable CPCB registration, certification and regulatory requirements, Terra Rubber will have the potential to:
- Generate EPR certificates against eligible quantities of waste tyres recycled
- Transfer these certificates to registered tyre producers to help fulfil their EPR obligations
- Create an additional revenue opportunity alongside the sale of Reclaimed Rubber
Management Commentary
Dr. KV Tolin, Promoter, Chairman and Managing Director of Tolins Tyres, stated: "The groundbreaking of Terra Rubber's Reclaim Rubber facility marks an important milestone in our journey towards building a more integrated and sustainable rubber ecosystem. Through Terra Rubber, we are looking to convert end-of-life tyres and rubber waste into a valuable raw material that can be brought back into productive use. The facility also provides us with an opportunity to participate in the growing EPR ecosystem for waste tyres."
Expected Benefits
The facility is expected to strengthen the Tolins Group's participation across the rubber value chain while supporting:
- Resource recovery
- Waste diversion
- Circular approach to rubber manufacturing
- Multiple avenues of value creation from recycling waste tyres
